Resting Reef is a pet memorial service that transforms your pet’s ashes into reef structures that help restore marine ecosystems. This unique tribute allows your pet to become part of a vibrant underwater habitat, supporting marine life.
The reefs are located in a village called Tulamben in Northern Bali, where they can contribute to the growth of marine ecosystems.
Direct visits to the reef are not directly provided by Resting Reef. However, we offer virtual updates for a year, including photos and videos, so you can see how the reef is progressing.
Is you are in Bali, we can put you in touch with local diving schools to visit the reef.
The service includes transforming your pet’s ashes into a reef structure, placement in the reef site, and ongoing monitoring and updates about the reef’s progress (1 year). Additionals like a "memento" mini-reef or a reef plaque, as well as the GPS coordinates are also provided. Please refer to the "What we offer" section for more information.
The process of transforming ashes and preparing the reef can take between 6-8 months from order to our restoration updates.
Coral reefs take time to grow, and you can expect significant development over several months to a few years. Rest assured, your pet’s contribution to marine life will grow steadily over time.
Currently, our service is dedicated to pets. However, we are exploring the possibility of offering this for human memorials in the future.

Resting Reef's memorial reefs are designed to support marine ecosystems by providing habitats for marine life and aiding coral restoration efforts. These reefs also help combat climate change by contributing to biodiversity and protecting shorelines from erosion.
We are committed to making our process as sustainable as possible, from production methods to material choices. We are aware of ways we can improve and we are heading towards that direction.
Not at all. In fact, your pet’s ashes can contribute positively to the environment. We base our formula on scientific research that show how bone ash can boost marine growth (Veeger, M., Ottelé, M., & Prieto, A. (2021). Making bioreceptive concrete: Formulation and testing of bioreceptive concrete mixtures. Journal of Building Engineering, 44, 102545.)

You will receive a GPS coordinate for the reef location, along with updates for a year and photos showing the progress of the reef site.
Part of our service includes updating you with the restoration progress. These updates include underwater photos and videos. We conduct regular monitoring trips throughout the year.
Although it is highly unlikely due to our careful placement of the reef structures, in the event of any damage, we will be in touch with you.
